Trail rides, barbecue, music and more – it’s rodeo time in Houston and as always, the season kicks off downtown. This year, the festivities get going a little early with a Rodeo Roundup on Tuesday, February 26 at Hermann Square in front of City Hall.

Don’t miss this lunchtime event. It’s a great way to learn everything you ever wanted to know about the
Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. The party, which gets underway at 11 a.m. and goes until 1 p.m., will feature live music, tasty food, fun and games.

Go Texan Day is Friday, February 29. Show your Western spirit by donning your jeans and boots and munching on some barbecue from any of downtown’s great spots like Otto’s Barbecue in the
Shops at Houston Center; Miller’s Cafe in the tunnel system and Pappa’s Bar-B-Q at 1217 Pierce.

On Saturday, March 1 the rodeo swings into high gear with the annual Downtown Rodeo Parade, which starts at 10 a.m. at Smith and Texas and ends by City Hall at Walker and Bagby.

Colorful balloons, decorative floats, marching bands and trail riders from around the country will fill downtown’s streets to herald one of the city’s most popular celebrations. Houston sports icon Craig Biggio serves as the Grand Marshal for this fun, free event.

Downtown's pick {of the week}

CharBar is quintessential Houston – a hipper than hip lounge where you can sip martinis while you have a custom shirt made or get your slacks repaired. Family-owned and operated since 1936, CharBar had its beginnings as a tailoring shop – Duke of Hollywood. In 2001, the Shapiro family did extensive renovations to the building at 305 Travis and opened the full-service CharBar.
