The
City of Houston is entering the final phase of its
construction along Greens
Road. Earlier this year, the city started an $8.8
million project that included the installation of a 66-inch water line that will
be used to convert Northwest Harris County from well water to surface water
from Lake
Houston.
The
water line installation is complete and crews are now working on returning
Greens
Road to its pre-construction condition. This project
on Greens
Road, from Interstate 45 to Hardy, is expected to be
complete by the end of the year. But wait . . . it’s not over.
Waste Water Line Installation
Greens Road is also due for a waste water line
installation. This project will not begin until after the surface water line is
completed and will only impact the eastbound lanes of Greens Road from
Interstate 45 to Thomas R.
Wussow Park at 500 Greens Rd. The waste water line will be
installed along the sidewalk and should only involve temporary closure of the
lane closest to the sidewalk. However, crews plan to have all lanes open during
peak commute times.
NEW! Benmar Drive
Opening To West Hardy
Commuters never had a way to travel eastbound on Benmar
Drive from Imperial Valley to West Hardy until now. Thanks to the Greater
Greenspoint Redevelopment Authority, a dead end is being replaced with a bridge
over a tributary of Greens Bayou that will open Benmar through to West Hardy. In
addition to improving accessibility in Greenspoint, the bridge will be the
canvas for a public art project in the community. Benmar bridge will feature
mosaic murals, special lighting features and the installation of sidewalks,
continuing an existing sidewalk from Greenspoint Drive. Construction is expected
to be complete by January 2006.
