Since 1990, Greenspoint’s population has increased by 43
percent, while crime has decreased by 13 percent. The Greater Greenspoint
District wants to make sure that downward trend continues with a new program
aimed at reducing crime and increasing the cooperative efforts of law
enforcement in the community.
The
Greenspoint District is investing more than $325,000 in a 15-month program with
the Houston Police Department that will add more than 7,000 patrol hours, the
equivalent of four full-time officers, during the life of the program. These
additional hours will be used to focus on three key areas; undercover narcotics,
tactical operations/zero-tolerance crime sweeps, and high visibility patrol
operations.
“This program provides additional support for our commitment
to keep our employees and residents safe,” said Jerry Lowry, the District’s vice
president and chief operating officer who also has responsibility for its public
safety programs. “The Houston Police Department has always been a friend of this
community and, I’m pleased we have a new way to effectively use our resources to
make Greenspoint a very tough place for criminals to do business,” Lowry
added.
